From media to improvisation: foreign and Russian participants of the WYF learn about key trends in various fields

On September 19, the business program of the World Youth Festival continues. Foreign and Russian participants from 120 countries learn about key trends in the fields of media, education and science, sports, entrepreneurship, digitalization and IT, creative industries, and public administration. As part of the "Public Administration" track, a case session was held with the heads of youth policy ministries from Russian regions. Viktor Kolomiets, Head of the Agency for Youth Policy and Implementation of Social Development Programs of the Krasnoyarsk Territory; Anna Musevich, Minister of Youth Policy of the Kaliningrad Region; Director of the Department of Youth Policy of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Head of the Yamolod Ecosystem Nail Khairullin, Minister of Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Svetlana Anufrieva, and Maria Chernysheva, Chair of the Youth Policy Committee of the Murmansk Region, spoke about the methods and practices that shape the region as a space for young people.

A highlight of the Education and Science track was the talk show Education as a Platform for Developing International Relations. Experts from Russia, Georgia, and Syria discussed how education is becoming the foundation for international cooperation and cultural dialogue, cited successful case studies from universities, student initiatives, and business partnerships, and noted the important role of young leaders in developing sustainable international relations.

Participants in the Media track learned from experts from Russia, Rwanda, South Africa, and Ghana how to create unique information content. As part of the talk show Media Literacy Without Borders, speakers from Singapore, the United States, South Africa, Portugal, and Venezuela shared their insights on how to develop critical thinking. Young entrepreneurs from different countries learned how the experience of the nuclear industry became the basis for the development of technological entrepreneurship in Russia and around the world. Experts from leading Russian centers discussed how an industry created 80 years ago gave impetus to entire ecosystems, from materials and instrument engineering to IT and quantum technologies. The speakers discussed what lessons from the history of the nuclear project could be useful for modern startups, how the governemnt and corporations can support innovation, and how technological entrepreneurship shapes the markets of the future.

On the "Sports" track, Vyacheslav Fetisov, two-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, natural resources, and environmental protection, and Chairman of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation, informed that sport is a powerful tool for establishing international relations, and that sporting achievements and values can contribute to strengthening peace, friendship, and cooperation between nations, as well as shaping a positive image of the country on the global stage. On this day, representatives of the field learned about the impact of artificial intelligence on modern professions, listened to a lecture on cybersecurity, and discussed which type of education is better—applied or classical.

On the sidelines of the World Youth Festival, a meeting was also held between representatives of Rosmolodezh, the World Youth Festival Directorate, the Movement of the First, and the official delegation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The participants discussed possible areas of Russian-Myanmar youth cooperation. In addition, the delegation from Myanmar was invited to participate in the World Youth Festival, which will be held in Krasnoyarsk in 2026. The negotiations were held beween Egor Litvinenko, Deputy Head of Rosmolodezh, and Zin Min Htet, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Young people from different countries also visited the booths of the event's partners. As part of the interactive program of the Russian "Znanie" (Knowledge) Society, Tokyo Olympic medalists and multiple World and European champions Sisters Averinas - Dina and Arina - led morning exercises for the participants of the Assembly. Arseny Popov, theatre and film actor, showman, and TV presenter, held a creative meeting entitled "The Power of Improvisation: How the Skill of Instant Decision-Making Helps in Your Career and Life." He talked about the subtleties of the art of improvisation and how jokes come to life on stage and on screen.

Experts from the presidential platform "Russia – Country of Opportunities" held a series of events dedicated to the professional and personal growth of young people. The day was filled with practical exercises, discoveries, and new tools for self-realization. Participants immersed themselves in self-diagnosis to find the best use for their talents in the training session "Where would I like to realize my potential?" from the "Professional Development" project. Using practical case studies and analyzing success stories, they learned to overcome internal obstacles and see specific paths to their goals, which was the first step toward making informed career choices. The second training session, "Stay in the Resource", also from the "Professional Development" project, taught participants techniques for conserving energy and maintaining personal balance in order to achieve ambitious goals.

Through physical activity and teamwork, participants discovered their leadership qualities. This opportunity was provided by the "Leadership in Motion" master class from the SportTrack project. The exercises helped them experience firsthand how trust is born in a team and how nonverbal communication strengthens leadership positions. The express activity "Your Profession of the Future," conducted by experts from the "I Am a Professional" Olympiad, helped participants look into the future and try on the professions of the coming decades. This simple exercise allowed participants to think about new fields and begin planning their development path in promising areas.

Foreign guests mastered the tools of the contemporary media industry, from fact-checking to countering deepfakes. They gained this knowledge on the second day of the intensive course in media from the New Media Workshop, which is crucially important for training competent specialists capable of creating high-quality content and meeting the challenges of the digital age anywhere in the world.

The All-Russian student project "Your Move" held a master class on "Improvisation as a Skill" from the special project "Your Move x Improvisation" at the Assemly’s venue. 50 participants learned that improvisation is not an innate skill, but one that can be acquired.

The organizer of the World Youth Festival Assembly is the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh), the co-organizer of the event is the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the event operator is the World Youth Festival Directorate. The Festival pursues the goals of the Youth and Children national project.

Overview:

In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on preserving and developing the legacy of the World Youth Festival, which took place on the Sirius Federal Territory in 2024 and united 20,000 young people from 190 countries of the world, festival events on the territory of the Russian Federation will be held annually. The next World Youth Festival for 20,000 participants will be held in 2030. In 2026, there will be a smaller event, an International Youth Festival with 10,000 participants. In between, the World Youth Festival’s themed Assemblies will be held annually for 2,000 participants. The World Youth Festival Directorate continues its work aimed at strengthening international youth cooperation.
