SHUM Foreign Participants Get to Know Russia’s Regions
On November 1, the regional programme for participants of the All-Russian Youth Educational Forum SHUM of the Rosmolodezh.Events platform started. Foreign journalists, bloggers, copywriters, social media managers, PR specialists and other media representatives began their trip around Russia. The regional programme was organized by the World Youth Festival Directorate.
“After the international shift of the All-Russian Youth Educational Forum SHUM ends, the most active participants will get to know Russia’s subjects better. On November 1–5, over 40 media representatives from 35 countries will visit Murmansk, Nizhny Novgorod, Pskov and Saint Petersburg. Young media specialists will visit publishing houses, meet local mass media representatives and even have a chance to try on the role of journalists. All this will allow them to dive into the work of Russian media, gain unique experience and professional skills,” said Advisor on International Affairs to the Head of Rosmolodezh, Director General of the World Youth Festival Directorate.
Participants of the regional programme include representatives of Spain, Italy, USA, Serbia, Canada, Czech Republic, Mexico, Argentina, Macedonia, Kazakhstan, Brazil, Egypt, Zimbabwe, South Ossetia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Armenia, Bolivia, India, China, Costa Rica, Transnistria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cameroon, Bahrain, Cuba, Lebanon, Pakistan, Morocco, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka.
Each region will offer unique event and cultural programmes. For example, in Saint Petersburg, the participants will have a meeting with representatives of the city government, visit iconic attractions of Russia’s cultural capital and youth spaces. They will take part in discussions, visit publishing houses of Saint Petersburg and the VK headquarters, as well as attend the opening ceremony of the International Friendship Club.
In Pskov, the foreigners will have a chance to visit a regional news agency, the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (GTRK) representative office and the Tolk media center. They will attend the “Sportspeople of the Future” digital festival and a concert on the occasion of the National Unity Day.
In Murmansk, the regional programme participants will meet with the governor and representatives of the Murmansk office of the Russian Union of Journalists, as well as visit local mass media outlets. The foreign youth will learn about the scientific potential of the region as they will visit the faculties of philology, international relations and journalism of the Murmansk Arctic University. Moreover, the participants will have a rich cultural programme: they will visit memorial complexes, the Lenin icebreaker and the ethnographic Sami complex in the Kola region.
In Nizhny Novgorod, the media representatives will conduct a networking session with the youth of the region, attend master classes on mobile filming and the development of youth media, as well as listen to lectures as part of the marathon by the Russian Znanie Society. During excursions, the young media specialists will learn about the history of the city, distinct cultural features of the region and the national cuisine.
Overview:
The World Youth Festival took place on March 1–7, 2024 in Sirius, according to the Decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the development of international youth cooperation. The WYF-2024 brought together 20,000 young leaders from 190 countries.
On the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, the WYF will be held in Russia on a regular basis – once in six years. Also, every six years 10,000 young people from all over the world will get together at the International Youth Festival, and in between, international themed gatherings and events will be held under the auspices of the WYF. Festival events of various formats will be held in Russia annually.
According to the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation on the preservation and development of the Festival legacy, the World Youth Festival Directorate continues the work aimed at strengthening international youth cooperation.
