50 young media professionals from 17 countries became participants of the National Youth Forum SHUM International Shift

On August 12, the first shift of the National Youth Educational Forum "SHUM" - "SHUM.MediaCenter". 300 young representatives of the media industry from Russia and abroad became the participants of the international program.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and organizers of the forum.

"Let me stress: much depends on you, the media professionals taking part in this forum, your competence, your sense of civic responsibility, and your confident use of modern communication technologies. It is largely thanks to you that our country, its history and present-day achievements benefit from unbiased and impartial coverage, while the world gains a truthful and accurate vision of Russia. Of course, your professional endeavours must help consolidate our multi-ethnic nation and foster patriotism, mutual support, camaraderie and a shared responsibility for the destiny of our Fatherland in our younger generation", noted Russian President Vladimir Putin in the address.

Grigory Gurov, Head of Rosmolodezh, noted that the younger generation is taking up a more active role in the media space, recognizing the importance of honest and professional coverage of events taking place in Russia and the world.

"This year, the forum "SHUM" will be attended by 1200 young media professionals, journalists, leaders of public opinion. The first shift "SHUM.MediaCenter" brought together 300 young professionals - representatives of student editorials, press services and media teams from 85 regions of Russia and 17 countries of the world, including: Republic of Belarus, Republic of Abkhazia, India, Serbia, Vietnam, Indonesia and others. In their work they show the unlimited possibilities in Russia, the beauty of each region, our rich cultural and historical heritage. Key events of the forum will be lectures by leading industry experts, workshops, creative sessions and launch media projects that we support. This is the basis for a unified creative environment for young people, providing a solid foundation for the country in the face of information challenges. Through their media projects, young people can effectively communicate the right messages and promote our values”, said Grigory Gurov, the head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.

The partner of the "SHUM.MediaCenter" shift is the World Youth Festival Directorate.

"In the course of communicating with foreign journalists and bloggers we have often heard their sincere interest in Russia, the desire to take on the unique experience of our country, communicate with Russian colleagues and exchange professional knowledge. This year we are providing such an opportunity. With the support of the World Youth Festival Directorate, 50 media professionals from 17 countries - Bulgaria, Armenia, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Moldova and others joined the National Educational Forum "SHUM». Together with participants from all over Russia, they will create content, develop projects and develop real cases. The forum gives participants an opportunity to improve their professional skills and paves the way for the creation of an international media team, a professional community. I am sure that there will be partnerships here, which will go far beyond the event and allow participants to continue the exchange of experiences and joint work", said Dmitry Ivanov, Director General of the World Youth Festival Directorate.

The program of the forum aims at identifying and providing professional support to young representatives of the media field: journalists, public relations specialists, content creators and bloggers.

Among the experts of the educational program "SHUM.MediaCenter" are experienced journalists, managers and authors of high-profile projects, directors of large media holdings and press secretaries of federal agencies. Margarita Mityakina, Chief Operating Officer of the "Pablister" media holding, Yulia Rummel, managing partner of the “Gold Carrot" agency and co-founder of the "WEEEK" platform, Vladislav Antonov, editor of the "Mash" news portal, Tigran Avanyan, press secretary of the Russian national wrestling team, Yulia Sterkhova, manager in charge of social networks at the Moscow Department of Transport, Stanislav Okrukh, partner and creative director of "SMARTHEART" Agency, Yulia Shimarskaya, Director of Development of "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" media Holding, Marina Mishunkina, First Deputy General Director of "Argumenty I Fakty" Publishing House, and others will share their knowledge with the participants of the educational program.

In 2025, "SHUM" Forum will consist of four educational shifts: "SHUM.MediaCenter" — for representatives of student editorial offices, press services and media groups, "SHUM.Experiments in Media" (from August 22 to 27) — for young opinion leaders aged 14 to 17, "SHUM.Professions" (from September 1 to September 6) — for working industry professionals, "SHUM.Community" (September 9-14) is for those who have already completed educational programs at the "SHUM" Youth Media Development Center, as well as with its strategic partners, creative industry leaders, media representatives, NGOs, government agencies and businesses. In total, over 1,200 young media specialists will take part in four educational trips. The event is being implemented within the framework of the national project "Youth and Children".

Overview:

The World Youth Festival took place on March 1–7, 2024 in Sirius, according to the Decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the development of international youth cooperation. The WYF-2024 brought together 20,000 young leaders from 190 countries.

On the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, the WYF will be held in Russia on a regular basis – once in six years. Also, every six years 10,000 young people from all over the world will get together at the World Youth Festival Forum, and in between, international themed assemblies for 2,000 participants will be held under the auspices of the WYF. The first Assembly is scheduled to take place in September 2025 in Nizhny Novgorod. Festival events of various formats will be held in Russia annually.

According to the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation on the preservation and development of the Festival legacy, the World Youth Festival Directorate continues the work aimed at strengthening international youth cooperation.
