Herman Gref, Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank, gave a lecture on artificial intelligence technologies at the Znanie.Pervye educational marathon of the Russian Knowledge Society. The meeting between the head of one of Russia's leading companies and young people from around the world took place on March 5 in the "Atom" International Airport Hall of the World Youth Festival in Sirius.
The speech of the head of Sberbank was devoted to the theme "TechnologII". Herman Gref described the impact of artificial intelligence on human life in the present and near future. According to the lecturer, 2023 was a breakthrough year for generative artificial intelligence.
"We once said that two qualities will always remain for humans - creativity and emergent, that is, the ability to create something new based on available information. It was thought that AI would never be able to create new things on its own. But last year has shown that this is not the case. Today, artificial intelligence fully possesses these functions, which means that we have all greatly underestimated this technology. Today, generative AI processes billions of parameters, understands all the emotional nuances of language and is capable of self-learning,"- noted Herman Gref.
We also talked about the opportunities that artificial intelligence offers. This includes communication, training, assistance in everyday life, and solving complex strategic tasks in the near future. Even now modern chat systems can do a lot. For example, just recently the development of Sber GigaChat officially passed the exam for a doctor, and got all the specialties at the same time.
"In as little as three years, generative AI will be a common part of our everyday life. And the next stage of its development will be interactive artificial intelligence, which is able to divide a large complex task into several simple ones and organize their execution itself", - predicted the head of Sberbank.
The lecture on artificial intelligence interested the marathon participants. Tatiana from St. Petersburg asked how AI helps to solve the problems of sustainable development.
"AI provides a huge number of opportunities, including the observation of trends and risks of sustainable development. In particular, 2023 was a record year in terms of temperature patterns. But the first two months of this year, unfortunately, temperatures are much higher than last year. That brings a huge number of risks. If there is one thing that can help us solve this problem, it is artificial intelligence," -responded lecturer.
The question of whether it is not time to create a laboratory to protect data from artificial intelligence itself was asked by a participant from Kazan.
"We have a cybersecurity lab and the so-called Red Team —such legalized hackers who are only engaged in trying to break our products to find their vulnerabilities. And there is a team that develops defense measures", - explained Herman Gref.
Herman Gref also recommended several books on self-development and personal effectiveness published in Russia: "Seven Skills of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey and "Jump Above Your Head! What got you here will not get you there" by Marshall Goldsmith about cognitive distortions that prevent us from developing.
The lecture by the Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank PJSC at the Znanie.Pervye marathon was held as part of the track "Saving the family for future generations". The track is dedicated to family values and the importance of family, children's social movements, and talent development from a young age.

The Russian Knowledge Society traces its history back to the Soviet public organization founded in 1947 on the initiative of representatives of the Soviet intelligentsia as the All-Union Society for the Dissemination of Political and Scientific Knowledge (since 1963 — the All-Union Knowledge Society, since 1991— the Knowledge of Russia Society). Members of the Society were engaged in popularizing science and lecturing on the achievements of the Soviet economy and industry. In 2016, Knowledge of Russia was transformed into the Russian Knowledge Society. On April 21, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the need to restart the Russian Knowledge Society on a modern digital platform in his address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
